Course Description:

In an era of apps and digital media, play therapy is no longer just about doll houses and sand trays (although we like both). Play therapy techniques, tools and traditions are shifting as they intersect with modern neuroscience-driven treatment. Attend this seminar and move beyond theory and into the present. You will learn cutting edge brain-based play strategies for child development, communication, social-emotional skills, and behavior. Discover how the play therapy techniques enhance executive function, metacognition and daily functioning in children and adolescents.

Leave this seminar with a toolbox full of techniques to enhance brain development, social skills and behavior in your work with children of all ages presenting for ADHD, SPD, OCD, dyslexia, anxiety, trauma and depression.

Objectives:
  1. Explain why and how play therapy works in light of current neuroscience research.
  2. Demonstrate how play therapy improves executive function.
  3. Implement 20 applied play therapy techniques.
  4. Describe clinical decision making, goal setting, diagnostic considerations and justification for play therapy treatment.
  5. Identify short-term play therapy techniques to maximize behavior change.
  6. Describe the roles of nutrition, sleep, OT, medication and respite in play therapy.
  7. Explain why and how to engage the family for long-term success.
