DARAN SHIPMAN, MA, LMFT

Daran Shipman, M.A., LMFT, is a private practice clinician specializing in working with LGBTQ individuals and their families, and an adjunct instructor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Department at Syracuse University. He has been providing therapy to LGBTQ individuals and their families for nearly 10 years. He provides expert supervision and training for students working with transgender individuals and their families at Syracuse University’s Couple and Family Therapy Center. He has presented at local agencies and national conferences on the topic of LGBTQ youth. Additionally, he teaches graduate courses on family systems models and issues of sexuality in family therapy.

 

Daran has published peer-reviewed articles on clinical work with LGBTQ youth and adults. His articles describe working with transgender youth and their families in therapy, and advocating for trans-affirmative school environments. His recent work on the experiences of transgender therapists working with their clients was published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy.
