JULIE UHERNIK, RN, LPC, NCC

Julie Uhernik, RN, LPC, NCC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Registered Nurse and author whose whole person treatment perspective allows her to better support clients on their journeys to healing by accounting for the neurological processes behind disorders.



Her book, Using Neuroscience in Trauma Therapy: Creative and Compassionate Counseling (Routledge Press, 2016) provides mental health professionals a go-to guide for more easily understanding complicated neuroscientific concepts and applying their lessons to therapy.



Ms. Uhernik has over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field helping individuals, couples and adolescents in the areas of trauma, anxiety, depression and relationship issues.  She also consults in the area of disaster mental health and has worked in emergency planning and response.  In addition to working as a counselor, Ms. Uhernik has decades of experience in the healthcare field as a Registered Nurse where she worked in various areas including chemical dependency and chronic illness.



Ms. Uhernik has presented at the American Counseling Association’s National Conference and lectures to a variety of groups on topics related to trauma, resiliency and wellness.  She has contributed to peer-reviewed articles on trauma and disaster response that have appeared in Counseling Today and VISTAS.  She is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Counseling Association and Colorado Counseling Association.
