Objectives
  1. Define the mechanics of the shoulder gleno-humeral, clavicle, and scapula.
  2. Properly assess muscle function and range of motion of the shoulder by examining the shoulder force couples.
  3. Identify treatment methods that restore the normal shoulder mechanics without forcing the arm overhead.
  4. Review the post-op ACL repair limitations and dangers of anterior shear forces in open and closed chain exercises.
  5. Identify the positive effect of balance training and eccentric loading in the rehabilitation of ACL repairs.
  6. Demonstrate exercises in the rehab process to improve balance and strength.
  7. Review the neuroanatomy of the dermal & fascial subsystem.

  9. Interpret the research as it relates to connective tissue gliding, pain modulation, and movement therapies.

  12. Demonstrate movement screening techniques to identify faulty motor and neural (threat) patterns.
  13. Apply exercises using bands, straps, cups, kinesiology tape, and body weight with appropriate progressions and regressions.
  14. Analyze the similarities and differences between the Delitto, Maitland, Sahrmann, and McKenzie (MDT) classification systems.
  15. Define centralization and discuss implications for treatment.
  16. Discuss classification processes used in MDT and Treatment Based Classification (TBC) model.
  17. Synthesize examination findings to determine categorization of patients into directional preference, mobilization, manipulation, and stabilization categories per centralization vs. non-centralization and patient response methods for assessment.
  18. Recognize the evidence regarding patient response methods as a means of classifying patients with low back pain, and how MDT and the TBC model can be integrated.
  19. Discuss causes in the rate of increasing chronic pain and central mechanisms of pain.
  20. Classify central mechanisms of pain based on the pain mechanism classification system (PMCS).
  21. Describe how mechanical diagnosis and therapy (MDT) and PMCS work together.

ROBERT DONATELLI, PHD, PT

Robert Donatelli, PhD, PT is the Director of Out Reach Sports Program in Las Vegas, NV where he works directly with the UNLV hockey team and is responsible for the development of a post-concussion program and assessment and treatment of injuries. During his career, he has worked with an impressive list of sports teams as well as professional and Olympic athletes including Andy Roddick, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Natalie Gublis, the Chinese Olympic Team, and most recently with Dan Uggla of the Washington Nationals.

In addition to his accomplishments in the clinical arena, Dr. Donatelli has lectured both nationally and internationally as a keynote and has published over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals and published three textbooks: Physical Therapy of the Shoulder 5th Ed, Orthopedic Physical Therapy 4th Ed, Biomechanics of the Foot and Ankle 2nd Ed and Sports Specific Rehabilitation 1st.

Milica McDowell, MS, DPT, is the Senior Director of Movement for Implus. She manages both RockTape and TriggerPoint brand. She holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Idaho State University, a master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado and two bachelor’s Degrees in Exercise Physiology and Health Promotion. A Physical Therapist since 2003, she established an orthopedic and sports medicine physical therapy practice in Bozeman, MT. She is also the founder of Bluebird Medical Supply and Epic Fitness Center. Dr. McDowell was a faculty at Montana State University in the Human Performance Department for 8 years where she taught exercise science related courses and mentored pre-health professions students. She is a published author, editor, researcher and speaks at State, Regional and National Medical and Fitness Conferences. She has taught over 200 continuing education courses and is the co-author of several continuing education systems. Joe also earned his Manual Therapy Certification through the same University. He is also certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). He finished the Orthopedic Manual Physical Fellowship offered by Daemen College in 2014. He most recently completed the orthopedic clinical specialist examination through the American Physical Therapy Association. Joe serves as a Fellowship mentor for the McKenzie Institute and Daemen College. He is also an adjunct instructor for both the Bryant & Stratton College Physical Therapy Assistant program and the Daemen College Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy program.
