Developing Body Awareness

The Circle Exercise

Our therapy sessions can involve a lot of sitting, so incorporating movement can help us wake up and be aware of our body in both small and large ways. I learned the following exercise from my friends at Kinder associates, and it is a great tool to use when you need a little bit of movement to wake up the mind and body and clear the head. It can be used with all ages, both individually or in group settings.

While it may seem a bit silly, I encourage you to give it a try and have fun. Leave a comment below and tell me about your experience with the Circle Exercise.

Hello, I enjoyed the Circles exercise and think it is a great tool for anyone to use (therapist, client, family, etc). It is actually a practice that I do regularly in the morning as part of my morning yoga practice to awaken my body, bring my attention away from my thoughts and build awareness to being in my body. Great tool to do with older adults too who may not be able to stand up or get around with ease. I found myself smiling also while I did it, which then made me laugh, and then I enjoyed the exercise even more. Thank you for sharing!
