Kelly will also lead three optional yoga classes on the mornings prior to the education sessions.

Objectives:

  1. Employ research-backed approaches to effectively treat common mental health struggles like depression, anxiety, and stress, drawn from positive psychology and other strength-based methods.
  2. Summarize the notion of positive neuroplasticity, and learn specific methods for creating lasting changes in the brain.
  3. Administer specific practices to cultivate gratitude, compassion, self-compassion, and connection – and understand how to integrate these practices effectively into treatment.
  4. Practice specific clinical techniques to regulate the nervous system and stimulate the vagus nerve, to help promote feelings of peace, safety, and calm.
  5. Summarize the efficacy of mindfulness-based approaches, and integrate these methods into treatment.
  6. Apply strength-based approaches to specific patient populations.
  7. Explore specific areas of the brain linked to positive emotional states, and learn techniques to increase neuronal firing to these regions in order to create lasting change.
  8. Implement mindfulness practices to decrease stress and reduce clinical symptoms.
  9. Teach clients how to integrate positive psychological skills into their lives in a practical way.
  10. Teach the components of mindful self-compassion, and discuss its clinical implications with clients.
  11. Apply mindfulness-based approaches to common mental health problems, and understand the benefits of mindfulness to our mental and physical health.
  12. Articulate the concept of the negativity bias in the brain, as it pertains to clients who struggle with depression or anxiety.

JONAH PAQUETTE, PSY.D.

Jonah Paquette, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist, speaker, and author. He is the author of Real Happiness: Proven Paths for Contentment, Peace, and Well-Being (PESI, 2015), a research-based self-help book in which he distills the key findings in the fields of happiness, and offers user-friendly tools to achieve lasting well-being. His second book, The Happiness Toolbox (PESI, 2018), offers readers an array of easy-to-use handouts and exercises designed to enhance happiness in a lasting way. Dr. Paquette is a psychologist and Clinical Training Director for Kaiser Permanente in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he oversees the mental health training programs across four medical centers.

In addition to his clinical work and writing, Dr. Paquette offers training and consultation to therapists and organizations on the promotion of happiness and regularly conducts professional workshops around the country. He is also a frequent media contributor, having been featured in print, online and radio outlets. He has a passion for imparting the key findings related to happiness and wellbeing with a broader audience, and he is honored to share these with you.

KELLY PAQUETTE, PSY.D., RYT 200

Kelly Paquette, PsyD, RYT 200, is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified yoga instructor. She is a staff psychologist for Kaiser Permanente in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she specializes in both the treatment of trauma as well as the integration of mind-body practices in mental health treatment. A gifted presenter, Dr. Paquette regularly provides trainings to both professional and public audiences on a variety of topics, and is the creator of a popular “Yoga for Emotional Wellness” class for patients in her outpatient clinic. Dr. Paquette’s past clinical experiences have included Veterans hospitals, community mental health clinics, and her current work at Kaiser Permanente.
