CHRISTINA STRAYER THORNTON, EDD, LPC, CCTP, AAT
Christina Strayer, Ed.D., LPC, CCTP, AAT, DCC, is a licensed practicing counselor whose practice is joined by her three therapy dogs. She has a telemental health practice, is a therapist at One-Eighty Counseling in Garner, NC, and works with an equine specialist practicing equine facilitated psychotherapy. The issues Dr. Strayer and her canine and equine co-therapists work with include trauma, ADHD, autism, PTSD, and many others. Her therapy animals are rescue animals that have experienced trauma. Dr. Strayer uses their stories to provide hope to her clients. She is writing a treatment manual pairing counseling theories and techniques with AAT. Dr. Strayer is an adjunct professor at Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC.
Dr. Strayer obtained her Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University. She obtained her Certified Counselor in Trauma Procedures (CCTP) from the International Association of Trauma, her Master’s degree in Counseling and Human Development with a concentration in School Counseling K-12 from Radford University. Dr. Strayer has a background in special education and taught 6th-7th grade special education, she worked with all types of populations in her work as an elementary school counselor for 12 years, as well. While employed as a school counselor, Dr. Strayer obtained her National Board Certified Teacher certification (NBCT) with a concentration in Early Childhood through Young Adulthood.
